Hi all,
I am starting a series of blogs called #1600CapitolHill. The purpose of the blog is to try and put some layman reins around what is coming out of the White House and Congress.
I am choosing #1600CapitolHill because right now, April 25th 2017, is when the entire world realizes that the White House is powerless without Congress and Congress is powerless without the White House. I have combined (portmanteau) the address of the White House (1600 Pennsylvania Ave) with the address of Congress (Capitol Hill) to reiterate the point that for the first time in a long time, Checks and Balances work. Also, #1600CapitolHill is a baller hashtag.
I feel like political shows and pundits say the same thing, in the same way. I believe that they miss the mark on how to deliver the political news that impacts Middle America. CNN, MSNBC, NPR, FOX, and others serve political food that is inedible for “The Rest of Us”, what-the-hell-ever that means.
Admittedly, this all comes off high handed, wonky and elitist. For the record, I don’t think I am smarter, or dumber, than the next guy. I do, however, live in Washington. And, I do have a natural attraction to politics. I am hoping the confluence (here I am being a DC Insider)… the union of my geography and passion, coupled with my streetwise education helps me to consume, digest and translate policy, legislation and action in a way that makes sense.
As you know, I am all about analogies, allegories and slang. I am going to attempt to translate Beltway-speak using these literary tools. For example, When POTUS aka DJT attempts to sign an Executive Order that is clearly Unconstitutional, and when the SCOTUS lays the smack down on that Executive Order, I might say something like, “You cain’t be changing the rules in a Spades game when you 10 books short. Fools get a smack for that!” See what I did there? That’s the level of dialogue I am going to bring. #getsome.
